Privacy Policy

Updated May 15, 2026

PlantID Pro ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how PlantID Pro collects, uses, and discloses your personal information when you use the PlantID Pro mobile application (the "App").

By using the App, you signify that you have read, understood, and agree to our collection, storage, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy and our Terms & Conditions.

Canonical source: this file. The in-app screen at app/legal/privacy.tsx reads from src/legal/privacyPolicy.ts; the two are kept in sync.

Definitions and key terms

To help explain things as clearly as possible in this Privacy Policy, every time any of these terms are referenced, they are strictly defined as:

What information do we collect?

We collect the following categories of information when you use PlantID Pro:

Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (handled by our authentication provider, Supabase). We do not store your password in plaintext.

Plant photos. When you take a photo or select one from your photo library to identify a plant, the image is transmitted to our plant identification provider (Plant.id / Kindwise) and, for signed-in users, stored in our cloud storage so you can access it from other devices.

Plant identification history. Each plant you successfully identify is saved to your local device. If you are signed in, the record — common and scientific name, identification confidence, care details, and a reference to your photo — is also synced to your account in our database.

Care guidance prompts. To generate care details for an identified plant, we send the plant's common and scientific names plus limited identification context to our care-guidance provider (OpenAI). We do not send your account identifier or your photo to OpenAI.

Scan usage. We count the number of plant identifications you perform each calendar month so we can enforce the free plan's monthly scan limit (currently five identifications per month). The count is stored on your device for guest users and in our database for signed-in users.

Device permissions. PlantID Pro asks for permission to use your camera and photo library so you can take or select plant photos. These permissions are managed by iOS and can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings. We also ask for permission to send local notifications if you opt in to watering reminders.

Subscription information (planned). When paid subscriptions launch, we will use RevenueCat to manage subscription state. RevenueCat will share entitlement status (such as active, expired, or refunded) with our backend so we can unlock unlimited scans for PlantID Pro subscribers. We do not receive or store your payment card details — Apple handles all in-app billing.

We do not collect precise location, contacts, microphone audio, advertising identifiers, or any other personal information beyond what is described above.

When does PlantID Pro use information from third parties?

PlantID Pro only receives information from third parties to operate the App's core features. Plant.id / Kindwise returns identification results for the photos you submit. OpenAI returns plant-care text for the prompts we send. Supabase manages authentication, database, and image-storage operations under your account. RevenueCat (planned) will return subscription entitlement status when you purchase or renew a subscription through the App Store. We do not purchase data from data brokers or social media providers about you.

Do we share the information we collect with third parties?

We do not sell your personal information. We share information with the following service providers, only as needed to operate the App:

We may also disclose personal or non-personal information about you to government or law enforcement officials, or to private parties, as we, in our reasonable discretion, believe necessary or appropriate to respond to claims or legal process (including subpoenas), to protect our rights or those of a third party, the safety of the public or any person, to prevent or stop any illegal or legally actionable activity, or to otherwise comply with applicable court orders, laws, and regulations.

How do we use the information we collect?

We use the information we collect to:

How do we use your email address?

We use your email address only for transactional purposes: confirming your account, helping you reset your password, sending billing or subscription notices, and responding to support requests you initiate. Automated PlantID Pro emails are sent from noreply@plantid.pro; replies to that address are not monitored. For support, please write to support@plantid.pro instead. We do not send marketing emails, do not sell your email address, and do not use it for advertising audience targeting on any third-party platform.

How long do we keep your information?

We keep your information only as long as we need it to provide PlantID Pro to you and to fulfill the purposes described in this policy. This is also the case for our service providers that process data on our behalf. When we no longer need your information and we are not required to keep it for legal or regulatory reasons, we either remove it from our systems or depersonalize it so that we can no longer identify you.

Local data stored only on your device is removed when you delete the App.

How do we protect your information?

We apply reasonable safeguards to protect the information we hold. Data in transit between the App and our service providers is encrypted using TLS. Account credentials are stored as hashes by our authentication provider. Cloud data is partitioned per user and gated by Row Level Security policies so that one user cannot access another user's records. Local data stays inside your device's sandboxed application storage and is not directly accessible to other apps.

No system is perfectly secure, including encryption systems. While we use reasonable efforts to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Could my information be transferred to other countries?

PlantID Pro is operated from the United States. Information collected through the App may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, by using PlantID Pro you consent to such transfers.

Can I update, correct, or delete my information?

You may request that we update, correct, or delete information we hold about you by contacting us at support@plantid.pro. You may also delete your account at any time, after which we will delete the associated records within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law or where deletion is technically impracticable (for example, backups that have not yet rotated out).

You are responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your password and account credentials.

Sale of business

We reserve the right to transfer information to a third party in the event of a sale, merger, reorganization, or transfer of all or substantially all of the assets of ASIP Technologies Inc. or PlantID Pro, provided that the receiving party agrees to honor the terms of this Privacy Policy.

Governing law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws provisions. You consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Delaware in connection with any action or dispute arising between you and us under or in connection with this Privacy Policy.

Your consent

By using PlantID Pro, registering an account, or starting a subscription, you consent to this Privacy Policy and agree to its terms.

Links to other websites

PlantID Pro may include links to websites that we do not operate, such as the websites of our service providers or other reference material. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or opinions expressed on those websites, and our Privacy Policy does not apply to them. Your interaction with any linked website is subject to that website's own policies.

Tracking technologies

PlantID Pro does not use cookies — it is a mobile application, not a website. On your device, we use the operating system's standard local storage (AsyncStorage and a small SQLite database) to remember your plant collection, scan count, and reminder schedules. This data stays on your device unless you sign in and explicitly enable cloud sync.

Kids' privacy

PlantID Pro is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@plantid.pro and we will take steps to remove that information from our servers.

Changes to our Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Unless otherwise required by law, we will provide notice before material changes take effect (for example, in the App or by email) and give you an opportunity to review them. If you continue to use PlantID Pro after the changes take effect, you will be bound by the updated Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to an updated Privacy Policy, you may delete your account and stop using the App.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws. These include the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@plantid.pro. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.

We process personal data on the legal bases of contractual necessity (to provide the App you signed up for), legitimate interests (to keep the App secure and to enforce usage limits), and consent (for example, when you grant camera, photo library, or notification permissions).

California residents (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act give you certain rights regarding your personal information:

We do not sell or share the personal information of our users for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@plantid.pro.

California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA)

CalOPPA requires us to disclose categories of personal information we collect and how we use it, the categories of sources, and the third parties with whom we share it. We have explained those categories above. CalOPPA users have the right to know and access, the right to delete, the right to equal service, and the right to request that a business not sell their personal data. We do not sell personal information.
